A Note from the Editors

We began this website to embrace the amount of creativity that would be coming out of people’s time in lockdown. But the way that many people see these pockets of time has changed since the murder of George Floyd on May 25th, 2020. For many, free time is now time to act: time to sign petitions, time to protest, time to donate, time to share and time to self-educate, while others have been dedicating their lives to this fight for a long time already.

The last thing that we want to do is to ask more of anyone, or more of their time. We are going to continue uploading new submissions to the website, but in order not to dilute the urgency of this cause, for every five published submissions that are not from Black writers/artists or do not respond to the BLM movement, we will make sure that we write a relevant article, or review, or recommendation. We want to platform Black histories, stories and Black voices without demanding more work from Black people - hopefully this is a way to do so.

Our original manifesto was for writing/art published NOW which responds to NOW, and that could not be true without BLM and Black art being adequately represented on this website.
